Ghana has a New President!

President-Elect Nana Akufo- Addo

Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo has been declared the president-elect of Ghana, the country’s Electoral Commission Chair, Mrs Charlotte Osei declared yesterday.
Mr Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) beat incumbent John Mahama and five other candidates to win the presidency.
Out of 10,781609 total valid votes cast, Mr Akufo-Addo, according to the EC polled 5,7160226 (53.85%) while his arch-rival Mr Mahama polled 4,713,277 (44.40%).

  • Total number of votes cast was 10,781,609
  • Total rejected ballots 166,248 (1.4%)
  • Total turnout was 68.62%.

The EC had predicted an 80% turnout to the polls. The results announced by the EC excludes figures from four constituencies: Afram Plains North, Upper West Akyem, Tuna-Sawla-Kalba, Tamale Central.
Meanwhile, Ex President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has sent his congratulatory messages to Mr. Nana Akufo- Addo on his victory.

Ex President Jonathan also urged the Ghanain President Elect Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo to immediately begin the process of reuniting the nation of Ghana and to also appreciate the great strides and achievements of President John Mahama when that time comes.

Mr. Goodluck Jonathan also stated that he is immensely proud of the maturity and high patriotism displayed by President John Mahama for conceding defeat to Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo.
